Common questions about Wellness Pet Company

Who owns Wellness Pet Food?

Wellness Pet Company, a privately-held holding owned by Berkshire Partners and Clearlake Capital. Independent of the Mars / Nestlé / Colgate-Palmolive / General Mills conglomerates that own most other major US pet-food brands. Wellness also owns Eagle Pack, Sojos, and Holistic Select. The independent corporate status is a differentiator versus Mars-owned premium brands.

Is Wellness Simple LID good for dogs with allergies?

Often yes, for single-allergen dogs. Simple Limited Ingredient Diet uses a single animal protein source (salmon, lamb, turkey, or duck) with a limited carbohydrate — typically rice, oatmeal, or sweet potato. It works for many dogs with confirmed protein allergy and costs significantly less than Rx hydrolyzed diets. For multi-allergic or severe cases, hydrolyzed Rx foods still outperform LID.

Has Wellness been recalled?

Rarely. Most recently March 2017 — Wellness 95% Beef canned dog food recalled after quality-assurance testing found elevated moisture that could cause rapid spoilage. No illnesses reported. That was the only significant Wellness recall in the 2015–2024 window. The brand's recall record is notably cleaner than most US premium kibble brands.
